One of my favourite peppers of all time, a wonderful concept turned into a perfect reality. This is another pepper that I aim to grow each year.
The plants tent to have curled leaves early in life, possibly due to the nature of the genetics involved, but most I've grown have straightened themselves out over time. They are reasonably slow growing, but well worth the wait.
Unfortunately due to limited stability, there are many phenotypes and colours available.
The pods are the star of the show. They're long, thick, and crunchy. The flavour is the perfect balance between Jalapeño and Bhut Jolokia, a cool Jalapeño crunch followed by the aftertaste of the Bhut. It's simply amazing. The walls are thick and bursting with flavour, and the heat is not too powerful to enjoy the taste.
In 2012, US grower Jack Skaggs decided to bridge the gap between C. chinense and C. baccatum. This cross may have originated from an Ohio garden, but that shouldn't put you off!
