A delicious orange apple-sized pepper from the species Capsicum Pubescens, originating from South America. Unlike most of the other seeds on this site, they are black! Don't worry, this is normal for this species.
The plants grow very well in cool soil, so they may do well as early transplants. Mine were very thirsty and fast growing, hungry too! Once they took off outside, a few pods set. They prefer being set in partial shade and will drop their purple flowers when it is too hot, too wet, too cold, too humid, not humid enough... ok these are tough to get to fruit!
But the wait is worth it! The texture of these pods are indescribable. It's like a good cross between grape and mango flesh; so juicy, spicy and watery.
The flavour is similar to a jalapeno, but fruity, and there is a nice aftertaste of apricot.
The heat was almost unbearable for me. It's so unlike any other Capsicum species. It spread completely around my mouth, with a sharp stinging burn like black pepper but more intense. It then travelled to my throat and that was painful!
